Our journey starts in Leticia, the capital city of the Colombian Amazon. The excursion goes through the great Amazon River, where you will be able to appreciate and admire the diversity of the eco systems and life that the river exudes. During the first stage of this excursion, you will visit a reserve where you can appreciate the world’s largest lotus, la the Victoria Regia.
Visit to Monkey Island
The Monkey Island, or Isla de los Micos, is a 45 hectare natural reserve that takes its name from the vast population of squirrel monkeys. The elevated walkways and platforms throughout the area offer a real close-up experience. The monkeys’ special behavior, intricate social organization, reproduction and feeding habits will be thoroughly explained by our local indigenous guide. Navigating through the periodically flooded areas and Lake Tucuchira gives a unique insight to the ecosystem of the aquatic life in the Amazon. This is the perfect place for you to enjoy the breathtaking and fascinating fauna and flora while exploring hidden waterways through the rainforest.
Visit to the Macedonia Community
Upriver we will visit an indigenous community in Macedonia ¡The Tikuna tribe! This is the perfect place to admire the handicrafts designed and crafted by the inhabitants, especially tapestries and dolls made of yanchama (the bark of an endemic tree), beautiful accessories made from seeds and feathers, spectacular carrying bags woven with chambira, and a great variety of objects such as pensadores (“thinkers”), walking sticks, belt buckles and necklaces made of palosangre (brosimum rubescens taub) or as they call it in Spanish, “blood wood”, a very fine type of wood and of great cultural value for many of the native communities in the region.
Walking tour and lunch in Puerto Nariño
After the visit to Macedonia next stop is Puerto Nariño and Tarapotos Lake. Puerto Nariño is a small village 87 kilometer from Leticia, at the mouth of Loretoyaco river, which it meets the Amazon River. The village is consider an ecological paradise because of its natural beauty and its strong commitment to environment sustainability policies.
The lunch is served at one of the best local restaurant in Puerto Nariño. Visitors can taste the local traditional dishes. Fish, chicken and meet is offered as well a vegetarian lunch option.
After lunch a nice and pleasant walk around the village is taken with your guide. Them you will be visit the Tarapotos lake, 5 minutes from Puerto Nariño by boat to see the lake and maybe, spot dolphins!
Puerto Alegria - Perú
Puerto Alegria is a small town on the border with Peru, whose inhabitants live on fishing and tourism activities. Here, visitors can appreciate and take pictures with some local such as the matamata turtles, monkeys, sloth and macaws. We make this stop only by request of visitors.
