Monkey Island
The Monkey Island or Isla de Los Micos is a 45-hectares natural reserve that takes its name from the vast population of squirrel monkeys. The elevated walkways and platforms throughout the area offer a real close-up experience. The monkeys have proper behaviour and a complex social organisation. Our local guide will thoroughly explain reproduction and feeding habits. Here, it is the perfect place to enjoy the breathtaking and fascinating fauna and flora while exploring hidden waterways through the rainforest.
Macedonia Community
Upriver we will visit an indigenous village in Macedonia, the Tikuna community, one of the native communities in the region. There, you can admire the handicrafts designed and crafted by its inhabitants. For instance, tapestries and dolls made of “yanchama” (the bark of an endemic tree) and beautiful accessories made from seeds. Besides, spectacular woven bags with “chambira” (Amazon Palm tree), and a great variety of objects such as”pensadores” (thinkers), walking sticks, belt buckles and necklaces made of bloodwood (Brosimum Rubescens Taub) or as they call it in Spanish,”palosangre”, a splendid type of wood. If you want, this visit can omit or shorter to visit another community, which has a low tourist profile.
Puerto Nariño and theTarapoto’s Lake
After the visit to Macedonia, the next stop is Puerto Nariño and Tarapoto’s Lake. Puerto Nariño is a small village 87 kilometres from Leticia, at the mouth of Loretoyaco River, which meets the Amazon River. The town is considered an ecological paradise because of its natural beauty and its strong commitment to environmental sustainability policies. During the visit, you will enjoy the lunchtime in one of the best local restaurants in Puerto Nariño. Visitors can taste the local traditional dishes. Fish, chicken and meat are offered as well as a vegetarian lunch option. Lunch includes a drink something else has an extra cost.
